Communication Principles

         Daphne says,
"Make your written message work for you.
Check style and substance".

Daphne's tips for proofreading your work:
  1. Read it aloud and also silently but always slowly.
  2. Read it backwards to focus on spelling.
  3. Use a spellchecker, but don't depend on it.
  4. Point with your finger to read one word at a time.
  5. Don't proof every type of mistake at once - proof at separate intervals for spelling, grammar, consistency of word usage, etc.
  6. Make a 'to-do' list of things to watch for as you edit.
  7. Double check little words, they are often interchanged - e.g. or, of, it, and is.
  8. Don't use fluorescent lighting while proofing.
  9. Listen to music while you work!
Daphne says, "Beware of these most common writing errors."
  1. Punctuation.
  2. Run-on sentences and sentence fragments.
  3. Quotation marks/apostrophes.
  4. Spelling.
  5. Tenses.
  6. Paragraphing.
  7. Word omissions.
  8. Subject-verb agreements.
Daphne can help you produce successful presentation materials, proposals and reports.
  • Do you have the time or inclination to handle all this and more?
  • Let Daphne proofread and edit your material for you, so that you can focus on preparation and writing. You can concentrate on your ideas, instead of the grammar.
